The house is situated some 12km from Lamego, where Portugal’s first royal courts are said to have been held in the 12th century. A historical city, well worth visiting for its Cathedral, Cloisters, Museum, 17th and 18th century Churches, magnificent 18th century manor houses and the well-known steps leading up to Nossa Senhora dos Remédios Church.
Just a few kilometres from Lamego, the Ucanha bridge and São João de Tarouca monastery are well worth a visit, as well as the Salsedas Monastery, all places of great historical interest within the region.
25km from Valdigem lies the city of Vila Real, also packed with ancient churches and interesting historical monuments.
